THE MISSING PICTURE

Missing Picture was truly different from other entries in 18th IFFK. Rithy Panh’s documentary centers around Pol Pot’s regime in Cambodia. He used handmade clay figurines to visualise the story instead of humans.

The whole idea was beautifully portrayed and the effort taken by the director has to be appreciated. The voice over given to the documentary was effective. The emotions created in the audience using clay figurines were truly outstanding. It was informative as well as inspiring. Some of the raw and vintage visuals were added in between to enhance the overall effect of the documentary.

The camp life of the people is depicted through these clay figurines with a frequent shift of videos from the past. Though the documentary was dragging, the idea was well executed.

A person who loves to dwell deep into history would like this documentary. The director tried to dig out those missing pictures but he admits that he failed to fix the missing pictures together.
