ROCKET

IFFK has always been a window to different cultures and traditions of the world. The Rocket, the Australian movie, directed by Kim Mordaunt tells the story of the determination of a ten year old boy. Unlike other movies in the 18th IFFK, this movie has a commercial touch which aptly suited the taste of Indian audience.

Ahlo, the lead character proves his worth by winning a competition in a Rocket Festival. The movie is a mixture of primitive superstitious beliefs prevailed in a tribal village. A jovial character, James Brown captured the minds of the audience. Even though the camera scrolls through the perspective of a child, the ‘thinking’ mass is also not left out.

A medley of tribal, rock and emotive background score took the audience to the ups and downs of the movie. The extensive use of long shots elevated the visual magnificence of the movie. Caitlin Yeo’s natural acting was the highlight of the movie.

The applause from the audience as the final credits roll shows the success of the movie. It’s a well crafted visually stunning narrative.
