Taste of Trivandrum: Nirvana Lounge, a place more than a restaurant

To quit a job and start a business is not an easy task unless one has some original ideas and confidence. When a group of friends known as KC Boys decided to start a new restaurant with innovative ideas, they never thought it would become a huge success. ‘Nirvana Lounge’, at Golf Links Road is the innovative restaurant in the city with their speciality Thai dishes and authentic Momos at its best started recently by Midhun, Vidhun and a team of friends.

A brightly lit casual eatery, the restaurant has been designed to take the diners into a culinary journey through China. The menu includes Momos, Cocktails and other Chinese, Malaysian, Thai and Nepali dishes. The initial idea of these friends was to start a coffee shop since they missed a good place in Trivandrum to meet up with everyone. “We were searching for a good place for the coffee shop and it was then that we heard about a house for rent. Our ideas went beyond a coffee shop to a restaurant. The name Nirvana doesn’t relate to Hinduism or Buddhism and it means self realisation. We never thought we would one day start our dream project which we thought was never possible”, says Midhun, one of the owners of Nirvana Lounge.

What’s special in Nirvana? It is the place where you can serve the dishes, sing a song, play guitar, showcase one’s talent and what not. Jamming sessions too take place in the weekends. One can be surprised to see the owners themselves serving the dishes. “It is like friends catering to friends. We could meet new people personally and interact with them to know their ideas and suggestions. The place is for friends to make new friends with a blend of food, music and art”, says Vidhun. The whole ambience and interior decor was experimented by this group of friends and they hired only the chefs to make the dishes. They insist on visitors not wearing chappals inside the restaurant to have a homely and private feeling.

A perfect setting ideal to sit down and sharpen the chopsticks, one can savour some Asian cuisine at Nirvana. The light blue ceiling with stars creates a feel good touch to the whole ambience especially during night. The Buddha’s painting gives the whole place a perfect ‘Nirvana’ feeling. Short sofas and simple tables, a wooden reading shelf, bamboo bridge and an outer area with concrete spaces are some added attraction for those who want to have a sit back lounge feel.

The promoters are planning to conduct a Momo fest and a coffee shop is soon to be added. They have also tied up with Harley Davidson Club of the city and their riders flag off from their restaurant. Outdoor games like archery is also being organised by them.
